How might intentionally remembering your memories today bring you into God’s comfort?

How might intentionally remembering your memories today bring you into God’s comfort?

Today’s Duomo lesson touched me deeply as I discovered I was stuck in grief by not understanding the importance of deliberately remembering my parents as it hurt too much.

I had loving, kind, parents but something about them both dying many years ago has stopped me remembering them in this way.

I didn’t find it worthwhile to visit their graves and haven’t spent time pondering the past or viewing photographs.

But today something snapped as God took this opportunity to bring forth stifled emotions.

Not by crying or brokenness, but by realising I had prevented myself from remembering. I feel thankful now, remembering their love , even remembering their eyes filled with love and concern for me. Mum and Dad, you didn’t have the words but I do recall your eyes misting over and your concern for me when you saw me resisting receiving all you had to give me.

The look of concern spoke volumes, but left me confused. For neither of you could remove the wall I had built around myself. Only God could, and He did it today.

Just now.

Releasing me from the fear of memories that I couldn’t understand. Harmless memories.

Bringing the ability to receive the love my dear departed parents so wanted me to receive from them. This childhood wall has been dismantled.

Thank you God, my Heavenly Father.

You are always faithful healing your children when the time is right. Amen
